Saturday October 27, 2018 was a serendipitous day for me in the DMV (short hand for DC-MD-VA area). I started out my day grabbing a Witch’s Brew from the local Starbucks along with a double-smoked bacon, cheddar and egg sandwich.

Starbucks’ Halloween themed beverage, the Witch’s Brew.

To be honest the Witch’s Brew tasted like sugar water with chia seeds and whipped cream. The beverage was definitely prettier than it tasted. Lesson learned.

From Starbucks I headed over to the Rock Creek Sports Club to spectate at a friend’s powerlifting competition. Even though I’ve been to a few by now, I always forget how long these events are. It started at 9:00am and I had to dip at around 2:00pm. I have no idea at what time it ended, but I do know my friend won the titles of Best Female Lifter, Best Squat, and came 1st in the 105 open. Go JL!

What made the day serendipitous? Well, a friend from college and I reconnected and she had tickets to Taste of DC. Lucky me, I got the last one. So here’s a quick look at what I was up to at Taste of DC.

Location of the event

Taste of DC on Saturday was held at Audi Field, the new home of DC United (local soccer team). Fun fact, I actually drove to their old home at RFK stadium in SE and saw it was a ghost town. Then I hit up my friend and was like…where is this thing, and she told me Audi field in SW.

Brazilian sausage from Texas de Brazil

After I loaded my Chase Manhattan wristband with $20; I went on a hunt for food. My goal–get as much variety and get to $0. The first item I ordered was the $2 Brazilian sausage pictured above, which was accompanied by a bun. Really could have done without the bun, but whatever.

Intimidating s’mores from The Capital Candy Jar

Now, disclaimer, I never tried the s’mores. But these big ass s’mores looked delicious and can be found at The Capital Candy Jar. The snack item I opted for was kettle corn from another vendor. The three scoop bag cost be $8.

I also had plantain and arepas from a latin cuisine vendor for $7 and $3 for churros at another vendor. No pics of those because I was enjoying the food. I can’t eat and take pictures at the same time. Plus, I was hungry af, so I was not going to take the pictures first and then eat–priorities.

Hendricks Gin was also at the event and they had four different drinks, and one of them was a hot drink–which I genuinely appreciated because it was a cold windy day. Shout out to Hendricks because all four beverages were free. I don’t have pictures of any of the drinks because I’m the worst lol.

Spread from vendor Portum. Location Oxen Hill, MD.

The above spread is from the vendors representing Portum, a restaurant located near the National Harbor in Oxen Hill, MD. Disclaimer, I ran out of money on my wristband before I could try any of the food, but I definitely plan on hitting up this restaurant and will let you all know what I think it. Until next time, just another work in progress.
